Subject: Re: Where does the NSS cash go?
John, we see the Society when they come to our dive sites to enach the
Medieval stuff, and view it as a omen of what will happen to cave diving
if the current BOD members (ex Hires and our guys), and the cast of
cave-bashing dive instructors and other self-serving members of the good
ole boy red neck club continues to represent cave diving. The WKPP and
the NACD are trying to offset that, as is Lamar Hires at CDS, but there
is not much he can do alone, and there is not much we can do when these
instructors are advertising everywhere and are the first contact that
other divers have with caving and tec diving. It has become a real
disgrace, and the fact is that our days are numbered if we do not firmly
establish a usefulness for ourselves and reduce the steady stream of
horror stories . As long as I have been involved these exact same people
have had a huge problem with the WKPP and its leadership, and that goes
back to when I was the lowest man on the totem pole and not even allowed
in the water - they hated Parker, they hated Gavin, and they tried to
tell the State we are dangerous and they wrote letters, which we have
copies of and did everything else to combat us. Tom Mount anjd other
instructors fought Parker tooth and nail on issues of gas mix and gear,
just like they do with me now, so absolutely nothing has changed other
than the fact that we are now huge, the NACD is now huge and focused on
exploration and research and has the best dive trainer in the World as
its Training Director ( the same guy who is the TD for WKPP), and we are
doing our best to set an example of safety and productivity that will
eventually be the choice of divers who want a choice.

We will not be teaching any pigs to sing, but then the trying is what
got us to do something ( like starting our Marine Division and a new
training agency), but rather than sit around bitching about the CDS and
the deep air divers, and the other problems, we are going ahead and
doing something about it , and our doors are always open to anyone who
wants to participate in everything we have to offer. Otherwise, for
those who do not, there is always a lot more of what we have witnessed
out of people who are supposed to be setting examples, teaching divers,
or organizing activites, all of which are horrifying.

The WKPP and the NACD will not become anacronisms while the current
players, myself included, have anything to do with it.
