You might try a commercial product from MAGIC called *Goo Gone* - buy
mine from True Value and K-Mart - contains: Petroleum Distillates -
Sorry but label is no more specific than that other than to say it
removes the residue from adhesives used on bumper stickers, labels and
masking tape.  Works well. Takes additional washing with soap and water
afterwards if you want to remove the *distillates* film left behind.

In past I've used Methyl Ethyl Ketone sparingly, and with plenty of
ventilation - it also works.
