The difference has to do with medical vs. industrial installations, and is also related to O2 cleaning requirements that the industrial gas industry follows...not to be confused with O2 cleaning of divers' tanks, which apparently is unwarranted and a matter of personal choice. If you're REALLY interested, I could scan-in the tech drawings for these fittings and the relevant portions of CGA G-4.1, NFPA 50 and NFPA 53M (but I might get in shit for doing so).
