the main and only purpose of a burst disk is to prevent tank failure when there is NO regulator on the tank,,, like maybe when the tank is is your trunk, after you gave it " a pinch more air" sitting in the sun for most of the day....get it???? anyway on the metal fatigue issue you are correct and also more correct than you realize,,because the design/thickness/material/ size of the burst disk are on the very limit of failure,,,good solid engineering on this as the """"FUSE""" must blow to protect the circuit....if you "overfill" your tank ,,you put the disk into premature failure through overstressing the .011 thick copper ,1/2 hard ,specification.
