Burst disks are an example of a know-nothing federal government bureaucrat in an obscure agency (in this case the Department Of Transportation) saving us stupid looser amuricans from ourselves. The idea of a burst disk is for it to blow before an compressed gas tank fails catastrophically. While there are gas storage situation where a burst disk makes sense, in scuba any idiot knows that the Oring will fail long before the burst disk will. The interesting thing about burst disks is as the pressure is pumped up and then relieved, the metal fatigues and eventually fails at pressures far below their rating. This means that more dangerous situations are created by burst disks than avoided. Gosh, thanks once again, Feds. Excuse me while I bend over and assume the position while waiting for the next God-like Edict From Above. In this situation you Europeans are more intelligent than us stupid 'ol dumb redneck amuricans and don't bother with stupid fucking burst disks on your scuba tanks.
