George, I've been following the discussions of the list for sometime, trying to = enhance my cave diving knowledge and to know more about what happens in = cave diving community in US and other sites. Unhaply, you touch in a issue that calls for my attetion and i think it = deservs some comments from me or from any other Brazilian cave diver = that follows this discussion group and knows about what you wrote. There are a lot of discussion about "doing it right". Like any other = activities, and cave diving is not out of the list, there are different = ways to do something right, without exposing yourself to danger. There = are several trainning agencies for cave diving and i guess all of them = make a good job on preparing trainning descriptions and minimun course = requirements. Then Intructors teach regular divers to start cave diving = based on those trainning descriptions, minimun course requirements and = minimun student performance. We have the "Human factor" that make the = Instructors to give different classes (based on their experience and = learned skills) and the students learns different even with the same = instructor and in the same class because of the same reasons. Each one = of us has different ideas, experiences and skills. I personally know those three instructors and followed the trainning = they gave in Brazil and did recently some trainning with them. I know = some pretty good cave divers trainned by them. They are very considered = here in Brazil and, i know, also in the US.=20 Regarding Rennaker's Article, probably you missinterpret the article. = Try to read it again without tendencies to find errors and you'll find = the real meaning of him words. As an explorer you probably already have = passed by this: Planning a long diving, investing time, equipment, air = fills and resources to make a great dive and then discovering that the = passage that you were told that was endless ends just after 100 ft from = the last explored point. It just happens. I really hope JJ like the Brazilian caves. If possible, please advise = ey were teaching cave diving. Luckily, JJ is on his way down there to show them how to do it right, and I can tell you right now that JJ will make it more than 800 feet into the caves, a lot more, and I will guarantee that when JJ is through with those people they will not be doing anything that these guys taught them - obvious is obvious, especially by comparison. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
