Marius, In a message dated 97-06-16 02:50:02 EDT, you write: << Don't forget to have second stages that are tightened so that they can be taken apart underwater, and all second stages should be interchangeable for maxium redundancy with a minimum of gear. A deco gas failure should not be a problem. You have two working (hopefully) regs on your back gas. If all comes to worse take one of them off. They should all be interchangeable anyways right ? Unless your deco bottle rupture, there's really no reason to loose deco gas. If you can afford it, use the same kind of fitting (yoke/din) on your deco as your doubles. >> ------------------------------------------------------------- This is a good thought in principle but it is the perfect example of a procedure or technique that applies well to cave but not open ocean. If you have a free flowing regulator and take it apart to "fix" it how are you going to feel if you drop that second stage cover or a second stage over 300 feet of water you can not return to? And to think, you could have used it as it was with a little valve manipulation. The same could be said for switching regulators were it not for the fact that you can secure the second stage end under a tank band while attaching the first stage. Don't think I would mess with back gas regulators unless I were absolutely desperate. Use your buddy's reserve ! What ever you do don't take the twins off to get to the regulators. They will try to go one way and you the other with a fervor. Chuck -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
