Subject: WKPP style, single tank, well lit, video rigging
Hi George, Barry et. al.,

I am 5'6", 150 lbs., with a 31" waist. I dive OW single tank air dives
to a max of 130 feet, (and this winter I will be) wearing a DUI TLS350
drysuit while carrying an UW video housing and a pair of AUL Super 300
lights. When diving a wetsuit and carrying no "extra" gear, I generally
need only 12 lbs of lead. FYI, Super 300s are each 17 lbs. negative, 14
inches long and 6 inches in diameter, a little bigger and heavier than
Spectrum 14s (and I will be packing two of these beasts).

I ordered the WKPP style ABS back plate, single tank adapter, harness
and Tropic Wings from Brownie's Third Lung. Entire package arrived
today. I have never used this sort of rig before, and wish to ask a few
questions.

1. I tried on the back plate and harness over my levies and shirt. It
fits like a glove. In fact, only 1.5 inches of webbing sticks through
the belt buckle. I'm concerned there may not be quite enough slack
webbing to go around me while wearing a TLS350 Dry Suit with thermals.
Am I worrying about nothing or should I request a larger harness from
Brownies? Note that I don't own the TLS350 just yet.

2. If I don't carry any AUL (Spectrum 14) style light on my harness
(note, I'm currently only doing OW air diving to a max of 130 feet, and
don't need such a beast in addition to the Super 300s), should my long
hose be 7 or 9 feet long? I tried on a 7-foot hose (wrapping it around
my neck in the Hogarthian style while standing up in a dive store), and
it is either the perfect length, or a little short. It is certainly not
too long.

3. As I mentioned earlier, each of the Super 300 light canisters
measures 14 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter. Arnold at AUL
strongly suggests I side mount both canisters to my tank (either an LP
steel 95 or single AL 80). Together, these lights are negative 32-36
lbs., and each is slightly larger (and heavier) than the Spectrum 14s
used by the WKPP. Should these "larger" lights be mounted to my tank,
rather than attempting to simply attach each light canister to my
harness (in the WKPP fashion for rigging a single Spectrum 14)?

4. Anytime I'm packing the AUL lights; I'll need wings with more lift.
Otherwise, with these heavy lights I'ill sink like a rock. The question
is which wings to get--AUL's retractable 80 lbs wings, Dive Rite's BC
Junior wings with 45 lbs of lift, or what? Remember that I'm using just
a single tank (frequently an AL80) so Dive Rite Classic Wings are
probably not a good choice. Would appreciate any suggestions on exact
make and model?

5. There are two D-rings on the Brownie's Third Lung crotch strap, one
in front and one behind. What is the purpose of the D-ring to the rear?

Please note in your responses that I have the Doing It Right video to
refer too.

Regards,

Peter Sale
