My wife was on a trauma team that treated a shark bite yesterday, and she said it did not look good. Apparently, the guy was spearfishing and holding a speared fish in his hand when the shark went for the fish. She said to me that "when you and I are spearfishing, the sharks seem so non-threatening", and I told her that was because I always drop the bag when they show up, and we never touch the fish with our hands. I leave a piece of foam in the bag and keep it on a leash that holds it up and away from me, and clip it off to the dive float otherwise. The damage from these injuries, if you do not bleed to death , is horrifying. The guy who got nailed was in the Bahamas, and had to be flown to Ft Lauderdale and then ambulanced to the Trauma Center, and then taken to surgury. Not where you want to be. For my diving weekend , Bill mee and I went freediving of of one of the regular boats. For some rason, Ft. Lauderdale has really clear water lately.- G -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send list subscription requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
