Chuck, we can feel it best this way as well. If you go from mix to air at any depth beyond 130 you can tell the difference within two minutes. Since, like alchohol, it is subjective when viewed the other way ( as in the saying, "through beer goggles" ), we think there is some "management", or "adatpation", or "abiltiy" to handle it. Try having a few pops and telling the cop who arresets you for drunk driving that you "can handle it", or that " you just set a drunk driving record", or you "have been driving drunk for years" with no problem or that it is your "personal preference" to get drunk and drive . Sounds pretty silly , but it is exactly the same thing. Like I said, my son is getting his driving license - shuld I take him for a drunk drive so he can appreciate driving sober. Better yet, should I charge him a few hundred buck to do it? Wait a minute, he is a fifteen year old kid, he might just pay up. Hold on, let me go talk to him now. Everyone knows that narcosis exists, so there is really no reason to intentionally subject oneself to it as a matter of a course in "technical diving", since the reason we are taking courses in technical diving is so we do not have to dive deep on air. Look at my "Flawed Logic" post: it is the hand-holding , cover your butt situation, where we now know of the horrifying consequences of deep air on the body, and none of us would teach driving drunk, but nobody want to tel the truth for fear of the consequences and the lost potential revenues of this scam, so all that is really left is to admit that we made a mistake, and move on to technical diving. Anyone who recommends otherwise is suspect at this point.
