At the time there wern't many alternatives and the 5000 still handles waypoints quite nicely. But the manual, without a doubt, is lousy. I went looking for a solution and found a GREAT book: Aviator's Guide to GPS by Bill Clarke 1994 TAB Books div McGraw Hill ISBN 0-07-011272-X Retail is 17.95 which is a bargain. This book is an invaluable resource for anyone using a GPS despite its slant toward aviation applications. I ordered it direct from McGraw Hill but I've recently seen it at Border's.
