The Compressed Gas Associaion (CGA) recommends special handling and filling procedures for steel tanks containing pure oxygen which may be immersed in salt water. CGA special bulletin SB-7 titled "Rupture of Oxygen Cylinders in the Dive Industry" states that even small amounts of salt water in steel cylinders can cause corrosion so rapid that explosive failure can occur in as little as 60 days.
