The reason is that the ally tanks dont last as long, simple economics with nothing to do with the gas, steel survives the knocks better.Ally doesnt rust but fails the test because it scratches easy. Once you have a coating of ally oxide then you dont have a surface for the o2 to react with, it is effectively coated. > >Not quite a myth, though hardly law, either. Our local gas dealer, Merriam >Graves, absolutely will not touch alu tanks - for reasons, which have been >touched on here before, and anyone into O2 handling probably already know. I would like to know, please ask them and get the reasons and give me them with their source. >I am told Linde won't either, Not true >and other suppliers I've dealt with tell me >they are phasing out aluminium tanks though they will still fill them. Because they are still in test. >It seems to pretty much depend on who you are getting your O2 from. There >are a couple of suppliers around here who still use 100% alu (in the >smaller sizes, that is). > Regards > -- John Thornton Owner/skipper Scapa Flow Technical & M.V.Karin Polrudden House tel/fax 01856 874761 Peerie Sea Loan Kirkwall Orkney Scotland KW15 1UH -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
