If high nitrogen partial pressures are so damaging (and I have no reason to
doubt they are), why not run with a zero nitrogen partial pressure, i.e.
heliox, hydrox or hydreliox? It would be more expensive, but for people
that are mixing their own gases it should not be technically difficult.
Hydrogen of course would need special handling procedures. Why not move up
to the next level and eliminate that nasty old nitrogen once and for all?
This is a serious question.
