Don't ask me how "gear for sale" mutated into a Nitrox thread. It wasn't my idea. Would switching to it entail risk of the not-much-talked-about "slam" - or is that more of an issue with trimix? Suppose you're at 130fsw on Nx32 - your EAD is 110' - shallower than what most would consider Narcosis territory - (assuming warm, clear conditions, etc.) Then, for whatever reason - caught in a "downdraft", loss of depth control, or need to assist a diver who's a bit below your MOD limit, you switch to your trusty 30cf. pony full of air as you descend. In the blink of an eye (well, in a single breath actually) you've "descended" 20'-30'. Add to that the fact that if you've had to switch, something is awrye. (Perhaps there's a bit of stress going on.) Granted - I'd much sooner risk taking a narcosis slap in the face than to start doing the OxTox shuffle... I imagine the nitrogen spikes I've read about occur under more drastic conditions than this - as in switching from trimix to air, but since trimix is outside the realm of this discussion, and the experience of most members of this list (self included) suppose we limit the discussion to an at depth switch from Nx to Air. Have you tried it? And if you have, do you think the fact that it was a controlled experiment vice one of those seat of the pants situations may have influenced the results?
