Anker, You're on the right track but think about how you got to this point. By listening to others who showed you "how" without teaching you how to think about this kind of diving. In other words they left you unable to make equipment choices based on a useful and viable uderstanding of what you are doing so that all you could do is imitate others and go through the motions. This is a very common situation throughout the diving world and the root cause of George's and other's concerns. Don't make the same mistake again. Don't look for someone to just show you "how" or "what" - what every diver needs is guidence in how to think for himslef with justifiable confidence - the best deffense against death and the only road to diving independence and excellence. Though the advice and tips from the WKPP and others may be excellent these bits and pieces in themseves will not make you an excellent independent diver. You are right to ask "why" because it leads to understanding whereas "what" or "how" alone only leads to an ability to imitate. Keep asking "why" and the worthy teachers will enlighten you as best they can. Eventually it all begins to come together. This pursuit of understanding is always painful and difficult - the reason so few ever acquire it in any field of endeavor. Grit your teeth, take your lumps and stay in the frying pan with the rest of us - the eventual rewards are well worth the wounds. PS, Read the archives !
