Come to think of it, when Luke Skywalker gets his face bruises
pooh-poohed by a laser while being immersed in a big tank, he wears
what looks like an old Spirotechnique weight belt (with the odd 2
piece buckle), and breathes from an unidentifiable regulator second
stage.
Any other instances of SCUBA gear being used as props in Sci-Fi
movies?

Those who bitch against bugs in Windows obviously haven't worked with
truly trashy system software, like the Macintosh Operating System.
