Let me add my thoughts to this discussion. First of all I think it is a really good thing that the topic of the benefits of using a long hose is being brought up every so often. That's because it always starts with a new person asking. That means yet another soul has recently heard of "the long hose" and wants to find out more. So be it that a few come out every time opposing the idea. They are effectively dealt with by the usual hard core on these lists, which I am sure gets some renewed pleasure out of it each time. The end result (I speculate) is that almost every one of the people who asked in the first place will give it a try, and I would be very surprised if they did not stick with it thereafter. I know in my case it all started with me hearing about the WKPP, then these lists, then the video, then watching it at home, and then reading even more from the lists, and so on. I thought about getting a long hose for my main reg for a couple of days (watching the video about three times a day in the meantime), and then I ordered one. When it arrived I threw it out on the floor, looked at it for a minute, and thought: What the heck am I going to do now?? This doesn't look like it will fit anywhere. But I stuck it on the reg and headed to the pool. You know what? It took me a total of thirty seconds (still standing up in the shallow end) to realize that this is a superior way to go. As I leaned forward and started to swim the next thing I noticed was that there was practically no "flapping in the breeze" because there is no hose sticking out to the right side of the second stage. It didn't matter how fast I swam, the second stage stayed put. That alone makes it worth the whole exercise. And then there is the increased freedom of movement of the head. We haven't even got to the convenience when air sharing yet. Again, once you try it, you will realize that it is EASY! And of course far superior to anything else. I seriously think that the people who argue about this have never ever tried it! I can't find any other reason. Anyway, just my thoughts.
