Last week there was some discussion on the 3 divers who were killed in
an underwater irrigation tunnel in Yakima Co. Washington. The death
toll is now up to four, because both "rescuers" died.
The dive was a 2000 foot penetration at 100 FFW.
I had a chance to examine the equipment recovered from the dead
divers. Draw your own conclusions:
-Single aluminum 80's with tank boots and mesh covers, and at least 1
J valve. Old Scubapro regulators with octopuses. I saw at least least
one frayed LP whip.
-one set of twin independent 80s, with boots and mesh covers, had two
full consoles on SPGs,and a homemade wooden frame instead of tank
bands. The whole shittaree was strapped to a scubapro BC. Three second
stages on short hoses.
-Tanks with J valves.
-One rig had a scubapro second stage stuck in a Mares FFM.
-sucide clips on weight belts and tank straps.
-UK 400 light and ikelight modlight as primaries.
-a sherwood shadow second stage/bc inflator
-a "stage bottle" marked "spare", which was an alum. 80 on a scubapro
BC jacket with a scubapro Mk 2 first stage (the sonic howler) and 28"
spg whip.
-funky looking harnesses that looked to be a homemade version of
Miller bell harnesses.
I did not see any reels, real lights, long hoses, or the rest of the
gear. At least one of the divers had a snorkle.
