The latest (April '97) Dive Training features an infotisement for Manta Reels, and I wanna know if these things are worth a shit. The couple things I see that could be a problem with them are the spring loaded anti-free-spool deal - in the photo, it looks to me like the springs would just love to pop out. And the "failsafe" nature of the device (you gotta squeeze two handles together to release the anti-free spool) seems like a good idea - like if you drop the reel, you don't make a mess, but mightn't having to squeeze that handle fatigue your hand and wrist after awhile? (unless you're among that elite class of divers who get plenty of hand and wrist exercise...) Oh - and it's pictured with a brass clip - which should be stainless. Anyone? Experience-based opinion? Heresay? Fire away. Drew -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send list subscription requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
