My friend Hugh is right - I have decided to stay in New York and live the quiet life of a wreck diver. Some of you folks might like to get to know Hugh in person, by the way - he's a pretty unique guy - but I personally am not interested in that kind of thing. All joking aside, I seem to have offended JJ pretty badly. I think went off in the wrong direction here. As far as I know, JJ is an excellent instructor, and you won't go wrong taking classes from him. He probably could be doing something else and making a lot more money, but he's in the sport for the love of it. As divers we all benefit from his involvement as a leading exploration diver, an instructor, and as training director. The point I should have made is that if you start cave diving with JJ, you will have started in the right direction, but you will have only just started. It's your responsibility, not JJ's or anybody else's, to see that you stay within you limitations and get the experience you need. Without experience and sound judgement on your part, all the proper training and equipment in the world won't keep you alive. Until you have this experience, and have gained some judgement, you probably shouldn't be calling other divers "superstroke." When George criticizes someone or something, I listen; I may not always like his tone, but he has over a thousand deep exploration dives to back his words up. When somebody whose greatest cave diving achievement was being rescued by JJ does the same, it is just hollow and irritating. It would be nice if some of the new divers on the list took the advice of Parker Turner, George's mentor, and took the cotton out of their ears and put it in their mouth. That said, I think I will take Parker's advice. Joe _____________________________________________________________________ Sent by RocketMail.
