In a message dated 97-03-03 17:42:58 EST, you write: << During a recent Dive Con open water, the subject came up about whether or not to use 100% oxygen for an injured diver diving on nitrox. Any comments? >> regardless of whether the diver was breathing 21% or 80% there is still a nitrogen debt . It is the nitrogen (or helium) that causes the DCI -- if the diver shows signs and symtoms of decompresison illness the first cause of action after of course checking for ABC's is to put them on oxygen and arrange for transport to the nearest hyperbaric facility. If your fear is that the chamber cant treat someone who has breathed nitrox -- throw that idea out of your head. It doesnt really make a whole lot of differecne what they were breathing. This will all be accounted for in the treatment if one is necessary. Treating a diver who has DCI whether from Air or Nitrox is of no consequence. ---------- J.
