We have had an interesting problem, and whilst I appreciate that this may only apply to a few folks I am sure the info would interest all. During an period of extended rebreather use - i.e daily, we have had somebody come down with a chest infection. The medical folks are suggesting that a mild localised infection may have been present and unnoticed. They are suggesting that the use of the rebreather may have allowed the infection a very efficient way of spreading. We have made a few enquiries, and it has been suggested that the anti- bacterial agent we have been using may not be ideal. What has been suggested is that whatever we use should have a 'soaping agent' as well as anti-bacterial properties to properly clean the system internals. The care regime goes something like:- Breathing hoses:- Rinse out + disinfect every day Breathing Bags:-Rinse out + disinfect every couple of days (usually when scrubber is swopped out. Scrubber Stack:-Rinse + disinfect when sorb is changed. So, I am now curious as to what folks are using to disinfect, and has anybody come accross this situation?
