*** Resending note of 02/19/97 09:23 Here is a warning to anyone who ships gear via United Parcel Service. BE VERY CAREFUL because UPS certainly isn't. Background: Dec 18, 1996 Barry Miller shipped a well constructed package containing a Tekna scooter. Labeling was clear that contents were FRAGILE as well as HEAVY. Package arrived Dec 23 very soiled and damp. Opening the crate revealed a jigsaw puzzle that resembled a Tekna. Damage claim was immediately filed Dec 23, w/UPS 800 number and pick up for return to Wakulla Scooter was to occur on Dec 27. Never happened! What followed was a typical beuracratic run around by UPS who denied that any problem existed. Finally after getting in contact with a Senior Executive, UPS picked up the damaged goods and returned them to Barry for repair. This was Jan 13 or 14, 1997 after daily promises that "tomorrow" we will pick it up. Now for the kicker: The scooter was repaired by Barry and packaged even better than before and shipped on Feb 11. Last night Feb 18, I found a package in my back yard. It was broken open. The wood frame was broken in several places, the sides of the box were caved in and torn. The foam peanuts were mostly gone but there was a pile on the patio. I removed the scooter and to my amazement it was relatively unscathed. The only damage this time was to the left handle which I can fix myself. At least it still runs. Moral of the story: United Parcel Service has forgotten what the word SERVICE really means. Be very careful in what you ship and who you use as a carrier. How many other people have had their packages destroyed by UPS and how many have been given a ration of crap by the claim adjusters? Any UPS employees out there care to comment??(especially those who handled the claim) Thanks for letting me vent. Randy Z.
