<---- Begin Forwarded Message ----> To: gmiiii@in*.co* From: Steve Gibbons <290487.38994@co*.co*> Subject: Progressive Penetration George, Welzel was a crew member on the "boat" (if you could call that piece of shit a boat) when we were diving the Andrea Doria. His buddies call him "weasle" for a reason. He bragged about the solo dive he was going to do, with one light, on air. 'But he didn't come back up the anchor line. He got lost, ran low on air, and blew off the wreck, just like that other guys said. He didn't have a lift bag to pop so no one could see him. Our lookout (the crew didn't stand lookout duties) had to get the fat slob of a captain to turn off the radio so they could hear Welzel yelling. The captain said "it ain't one of our guys"; our lookout said it ain't one of us because we would have popped a lift bag which would have been spotted near the boat. Some of these guys are quite amusing. One of them had some bullshit rig which had a fixed rectangular aluminum battery box hard mounted to the backpack frame. He had pulleys (thats right pulleys) mounted on each valve knob so he could pull the "rip cord" to shut the valves if need be. Every time I see the OMS ad with the knob extenders I almost die with laughter. I hear they had a huge fat slob to demonstrate it at DEMA. Most of those guys spent more time fucking with their gear and when they finally got in the water, they looked like sinking dive shops with all the crap dangling. We felt so bad that the crew got bullshit for china, that we gave them some when we left. The exception being Steve Gatto and another diver (I can't recall his name). Some of the smarter ones went down to Florida for cave training once they realized there is something to be learned south of New Jersey. You are right about these guys- they are dangerous idiots, and a bunch of huge fat slobs. They have horrifying gear, and no diving skill. Some of these guys use more air then the diesel engines on the boat. I saw one fat slob use double 121's just to do a 220 foot dive for thirty minutes, and sucked them down to 1200 PSI - unbelieveable. To top it off, they all think this takes some kind of skill - these guys could not get to fist base in Florida. I guess expecting to find good divers in New England would be like expecting to find good snow skiiers in Florida. <---- End Forwarded Message ---->
