Oh I forgot, you didn't do a lift bag drift, because you didn't have a lift
bag. That would explain your distance from the boat.  The lift bag does
more than provide vertical reference; it provides visual reference for the
lookout on the boat. Our procedures always require a lookout topside
whenever there is anyone in the water. It worked for you.
