Sean,

Agreed.

What usually happens on these lists and elsewhere online is that we get a
very simplistic polarizing of views. Only the extremities are allowed.
I'm not on either extreme, I may or may not use a snorkel even when OW
diving depending on conditions. I don't wreck dive. I've been _in_
wrecks, but the wrecks I've been in don't really qualify as wreck diving.

I can't see _any_ use for a snorkel in cave diving and your point that it
could be a problem in a wreck is well taken. However, based on
conversations with other wreck divers it seems that a snorkel, properly
stowed, could be useful under certain circumstances, not all of which can
be foreseen. I certainly respect those who think it's useless and I
understand their point of view, especially those, like yourself, who are
capable of mature and rational responses.

If I ever get actually trained for wrecks I'm sure this issue will come
up for me again. In the meantime, caves are a more comfortable place for
me to be, sans snorkel.

Later,

JoeL
