Ok, the fun is over. Enough already about snorkels. Here's what's come of it. First - did some research and found that the guy that got blown off the wreck is a stroke. The people he was diving with were all strokes and they all contributed to his unlucky 14 hour float. Second - many of the people who are regarded as experts worth listening to for advice on what is right and safe have made good arguments why NOT to use a snorkel when SCUBA diving. Many notorious strokes on the other hand have come up with some downright hilarious reasons why you should. Third - I DO NOT use a snorkel when I have tanks on my back - with one exception - that is when I'm teaching RECREATIONAL open water diving and that's because my certifying agency (YMCA/CMAS) requires it. This is not my preference, it's a requirement. Fourth - ANYONE who even suggests a snorkel should be taken into a cave, cavern or wreck is proving themselves a COMPLETE stroke that should not be allowed anywhere near a cave, cavern or wreck or even a scuba rig. And finally, let's let the snorkel deal rest now. The pros don't use them for Scuba diving, the strokes use them for everything. So it's like the longhose/shorthose argument. And like George has said many times "you can't teach a pig to sing". Strokes are strokes 'cause they don't want to learn and all the teaching, arguing, explaining in the world isn't gonna get them changing anytime soon. Thanks for all the interesting input for the snorkel argument, Mitch
