Yes this is the public face. Everything you said was in the article in
BSAC Diver. I found it quite amusing because it presented a fairly
balanced argument and then right at the end they said (paraphrase)
"We don't endorse it", followed by the comment you made:

I thought much as you did until one of the BSAC people in-the-know joined
a buddy of mine on a dive (following Greg Dawe's suggestion perhaps I
should not name him). He revealed that there have been very heated
arguments at committee level and that the real central reason for not
endorsing nitrox is the tables. There are no real technical arguments
against it and certain inner-sanctom members would like to endorse it.

I don't know much about the 88 tables (only what's in Lippman's book)
but I understand that it would be a problem. I am happy to be
corrected.
