Anthony, you missed the part that said "when necessary", meaning when we can not get through something any other way, and that is extremely rare. and requires a real good reason. The other thing is that managing REMOVEABLE tanks is head and shoulders above dealing with fixed tanks. Think about it before trying to find semantic aarguments with me - I would not make a blanket statement that is unfounded. Gas management is still a huge clusterfuck, but at least there are some sharing options (like passing off a tank), and with a reg problem, you could share while swapping regs to save the gas. If you throw a stge in there, which is what I do when I do it, now you have a little bit of a cushion of reduncency, and the only risk is then that somebady will see you looking like a stroke. I do it in the bahamas, so that all I have to do is take a few regs and basic stuff, and rent single 80's from the dive shops. In the Caymans, you have to go to a few shops to get enough tanks, as the strokes not only hide cave severely, they will not rent you enough tanks at once to do the job. George M.
