Some information about lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are used in the film and video industry by serious professionals who work in very cold conditions. Lithium works well in very cold conditions, nicads and alkaline batteries do not. Lithium batteries have a shelf life of ten years; they are made for motion picture cameras and video cameras. I have three lithium batteries for a Sony VX3 camera that fit in an Amphibico housing with the camera. They have a performance life of eight hours at temperatures of Arctic waters. The lithium batteries that I use do not give off any discernable gas. There is a company in Massachusetts whose sole existence is devoted to making lithium batteries for the film and video industry. They also make other chemical batteries that are rechargeable using conventional charger or solar charger. Solar chargers are useful for remote expeditions that are not going to hump a generator nor carry hundreds of non-rechargeable batteries. E-mail me privately and I will give you a phone number if interested. Rod
