There I was, finally in the warm clear waters of Peacock and on my way back from Olsen to Peacock one when my Neutralite decides to pack it in. I had been looking forward to this dive for some time since I rarely get the opportunity to cave dive other than in the cold sumps of the Northeast. Being used to low visibility and small lights I pulled out one of my backups and we completed the dive without further incident. When I got out of the water I discovered that the fuse in my Neutralite 24, yes the one with the square battery, had blown. I found this strange since I knew that I had not fully screwed down the headpiece on the actuator handle. I replace the fuse and the light returned to life. I then turned it off and set the head piece down to work on some other gear. I picked it up a few minutes later and the handle was hot. The light still worked but I could smell the faint odor of burning wire's. I took the hint and borrowed an other light for the next dive. The element of this episode that surprised me was that the fuse did not fail when the light handle began to fry. To add further insult to our efforts my dive partners Mr 16 neutralite head piece began weeping water on this trip as well. Since this was not a deep dive my faith in the reliability of the neutralite line is not very high at this time. JOSEPH KAFFL SUMPDIVER@MS*.CO*
