Does any one know of any links between (or references to) decompression sickness and general anesthetics ? A friend of mine recently had a bend after a 'normal' dive to 60m (short bottom time, no decompression omitted, Bridge II computer, nitrox used for the stops). About an hour after the dive he had pins and needles plus a feeling of coldness in his left leg, arm and cheek bone. He was recompressed successfully and appeared to be 'cured'. Two weeks later in underwent an operation on his right elbow to remove some pins following an accident sometime ago. About 12 hours after coming out of the anesthetic, the symptoms of his bend returned only much worse this time and accompanied by blinding headaches and dizziness. Over a period of four weeks the symptoms have not eased. Medical tests such as a brain scan and taking fluid from the spinal cord appear to be normal, and the medical profession appear to be at a loss about what is happening. Several UK divers seem to remember reading about a similar case somewhere but can't locate any reference, does anyone else know of a similar case or any references that maybe of help. Thanks, Russell Carter, Cave Diving Group (U.K.)
