Jeff,

Just for interest's sake, you might like to check 
out our site update page. It is at:

There is a permanently moored instrument array 3km out 
to sea off Bondi Beach. The instruments give us:

wave height               wave period
wind speed                wind direction
surface temperature       bottom temperature
surface current speed     bottom current speed
surface current direction bottom current direction

The information is relayed to the hydrology lab
which updates the web page every five minutes.

You'll notice how the current off the coast here
backs up, eddies and reverses quite frequently.

Since the wrecks we dive are 3 - 6km out, the
information is quite valuable. All we need is
vis. readout and shark activity indicator and 
life would be complete.
