George,

While I'm not sure of exactly how many knots the currents run, I can 
tell you of a few wrecks (like the Cape Fear near Newport) that runs 
so hard getting down to it you're doing the old flag on a windy day 
as you descend.  It's no fun getting down and you MUST use a jon-line 
on the hangs.  Still, to some that's fun.  Not me.
