Mark, this guy lives in California and he is going to show us all how to cave
dive. I saw a group of arrogant jerks like this that Mount had as students.
They
all had "Team Doria" T-shirts on and were as full of shit as anyone I have ever
seen in this sport. They then stuffed their hoses down the middle of the backs
of their tanks, and Mount went along with this.

This guy sounds just like that. He made some stuopid comment, and when we
dismissed it, he went off. I love the part where he accuses me of taking the
best and incorporating it in our diving, which is the heart of our argument
with
what is being taught out there - nobody but us thought to do this.

Now he says he has improved on our methods. This is the kind of arrogance I
thought only the usdct had, but it must be fashionable out there. I would
suggest that there are very good reasons for everythig we do, we have explained
them, and until somebody actually tries this stuff, they have no idea what an
"improvement" would be.

It never ceases to amaze me how being out there doing it means nothing in this
sport, and bullshitting is everything. We have the tapes, the maps, the gear,
the articles, the awards, and the ten year track record to substantiate what we
are showing everyone else - the problem is that guys like Bott don't want to
take what is being given freely away, they want to get their teeth on that hand
since it is feeding them, not petting them on the head.

I would suggest that Bott and other detractors ask Bill Main, whose middle
name is Hogarth, what he thinks about what I have done with his concepts, for
which Gavin actually is responsible for the implementation and engineering
detail, and see what the real story is.

Here is the short verswion : Gavin and I dove together for years, he was the
Director and Project Engineer, I was the coordinator. He waas busy with the
Navy's EX19 rebreather program, so relied on me to implement his ideas, one of
which was the scooter. We both had working prototypes, but his was simpler and
easier to build, as well as $4,000 cheaper. Young Ed Padgett has my scooter,
the
rest are Bill's. I just finished the engineering drawings for each part, had
the
parts made , and assembled them for the team. Gavin did make the lights, and
Arnold got his info from Bill to make the rest. On everything else, I would run
it by Bill, and then put it into play for the team - this continues today.

   Real stupid of me, huh?

Put this talent of Gavin's together with my ability to get things done, and
we
have equipment, permits, and a team. I recruited the best divers out there, and
told the strokes to pound sand - the crux of the problem - this also continues
today, but now we have the best and so train the rest to eventually be the best.

We had to cover a lot of areas and be sure we were right, so I went to the
experts, got their advice, put it into play, then reeported back to the
community on it, like for deco, gases , specificat equipment and techniqes,
physiology, etc. This is well documented in my nine films , fifty-five
articles,
many publications idiosyncratic to one aspect of the sport or another, and in
my
private efforts to help as many people out there who are interested.

Most of this list will confirm that this is true.

I take credit for nothing except actually doing not yapping, and for having
the self-respect to do what it takes to do this on an ongoing basis, and for
not
putting up with any bullshit in a dangerous sport, and my track record confirms
all of these things.
