My first dive on the Atlas tanker off of North Carolina was done off of George's old wood boat at Olympus charters. I lowered the Farallon on a rope to a depth of about 15ft or so and jumped in. To my surprise there was a very large hammerhead shark swimming around the scooter. Of course he shuffled off quickly. Therefore the only conclusion that can be reached is scooters do attract sharks. Just lowering one in the water brings them in from miles around. 'Thought about chrome plating one of the blades to bring in the cudas also. I also got a free ride on a BIG shark off of Grand Cay in the Bahamas while snorkeling and pole spearing a Nassau grouper. I had just switched to a 6ft spear, from a 4 ft one, and sure as all get out the shark snuck in on me, grabbed my fish and spear and pushed me throught the water asses and elbows going until it finally pulled away at which point I gave him the whole kit. Now this never happened when I used a 4ft spear. So the conclusion is that sharks are insanely attracted to 6ft pole spears. True stories, Doug Chapman
