Greetings. Back from our New Mexico sojurn, where we enjoyed imagining Carlsbad Caverns when it was water-filled, and witnessed the Annual Mega Bouyancy Control Convention (also known as Albuquerque's 25th International Balloon Fiesta). Never seen more basket cases in one place. Inquired also about the 17 miles of lava tubes in NM -- but saw for ourselves that the water in them is hard -- as in frozen, year-round. *Very* cool! Noticed G-shock's posting of the reasons for not butt-mounting a battery cannister and just had to react. Being well aware of the proscription concerning hose-stuffing, imagine my amazement when I saw Anti-Butt-Mounting Reason #1: "1) We use this position to tow scooters and to tow buddy in an emergency - *his head is tucked in behind the tanks*." So here they are *advocating Buddy-Stuffing*. Now I don't know what to think! Looking forward to this year's excellent NACD Workshops. G-Whiz's Gear Config. Workshop should be very well attended. I'm looking forward to seeing whether/how Hogarthian Mode has evolved since our instructor Steve Gerrard taught it to my wife and I back in '89. One would have thought that this most elegant concept would have permeated the diving world completely by now but it hasn't and this workshop should go a long way towards achieving that goal. (Attention G-Spot: Since there are those who can't figure anything out for themselves, someone will probably ask you as well to demonstrate just how you shake the dew off your lilly. Be prepared -- bring illustrations.) Highlight for me will be the report and the vid of the latest expedition to Turkey -- going by the extraordinary abilities of these guys, these presentations should be quite spectacular and awe-inspiring -- not to be missed! I'll be showing a video sat. night, from The Technical Diving Video Library, made by some German friends. (The English translation was done by German cave diver Reinhard Buchaly, e-mailed to me, reviewed, returned, and recorded there. Cyber-scripting!) Wait 'til you see what they do for fun in Germany! See you in Gainesville. Christopher A.
