Subject: metal to metal (was Cave Lights)

One of the reasons cited against butt mounting lights is that bands and 
D-rings must be installed on the tanks which produces a metal-to-metal 
connection.  This is apparently a "no-no".

What am I missing?  Could someone explain why metal to metal connections are 
bad?
