Rich, Yes, they are prescription drugs. We have so far used them intravenously during the hang (set up a closed system with minor amounts of heparin and the drug, and at the start of deco we release a clamp and inject the solution). As to publication, Dick Vann has published some results on similiar concept (ie, they used a continuous infusion of ISUPREL to vasodilate, but this is also a very potent inotropic agent, so it is hard to differeniate between the effects of the vasodil. and the direct increases in cardiac output due to the drug). We have a very small sample at this time, and probably will not be publishing in the near future, but would really like to do some work with more divers (try and get this past a human research committee). Also, we are looking for a drug that has the same effects, but would be useable via the subling. route. Nifidepine has been suggested, but it is a calcium channel blocker, and as such would/could have a direct negative inotropic effect that I would prefer to avoid. John Submariner Research, Ltd.
