>Care to describe the 7k Fisher unit in some detail ? >How do you "fly" it and what sensor does Fisher deem >sufficient for this application ? John, The Fisher unit is more like $7,800. and is a towable fish with a graph print out. Never used one, don't know much about how they work -- except the very general principles. I want to help locate wrecks in the 150-300fsw range off, for instance, San Pedro were there are lots of wrecks with locations generally known, but need to be able to use something to search large areas fairly quickly as compared with the depth sounder. For example we know of a wreck of a 150ft. steel oil rig ship in 140fsw and it's approx. area of sinking (north of Santa Barabara in this case), but the search area is still a few square miles-- far too much to do with just a sounder and search pattern unless one got very lucky.
