Mike, if you pack the 155 cannister properly, there is no reason to check it every three hours for channeling. On many of my dives that would mean opening the cannister underwater which would be impossible. I pack mine so that it is about one-granule-approximate-diameter above the top after seriously tapping and by vibrating the cannister so that maximum settling occurs. Then, a piece of foam, then the top pushed forcefully onto cannister until the o-ring seats. Then the locking screw. I have never experienced channeling. I use the 2.5-5u particle size scrubber so it is big as boulders anyways. I worry more about Panama Canaling with that stuff. Channeling is a subtle danger. Anyone keeping records of their scrubber life could easily become complacent and not check their scrubber for channeling until their records indicate it is time to change it. Leon suggest checking after every dive, but I do it about every three hours. > > What I am beginning to wonder is exactly what was meant in the original post by "leakage" caused by distortion. If the canister is leaking scrubber that would not be a very harmful, but could be a distasteful, problem. If the spring is putting so much pressure on the canister as to leak water into the center section and scrubber that sounds much more serious. > > The CCR 155 has a clear lexan cover housing the center section. Within the center section is a donut shaped canister containing 7 pounds of scrubber. Within the center opening of the donut shaped scrubber canister are the three O2 sensors. Below all of this, well protected from counterlung eating fish, is the counterlung. > > What part of this description of the CCR 155 best describes where you think a leak could have been caused by distortion to the canister in the Drager as was originally discussed? > > My impression is that the spring is in the canister. What became distorted, the canister? If so, how did that affect the integrity of the center section? > > BioMarine uses a simple screw top on the canister to provide pressure to hold the well packed scrubber material. You press on the top, then screw down a lock in the center of the unit. The pressure is even and constant. > > Mike > > > > > > -- > Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@terra.net'. > Send subscription/archive requests to `techdiver-request@terra.net'. >
