As long as you are on the future kick, I'll contribute my personal dive 
fantasy.  How about, 10 years from now (50 is too long for me) a CNS O2 
toxicity prophylaxis allowing unlimited depth on pure O2 using a pure oxygen 
rebreather.  You could take a bored out LAR V to XXX feet without having to 
worry about inert gas narcosis/uptake.  No doubt there would be further 
presently unquantified considerations (O2 decompression obligation, O2 
narcosis) and other aspects beyond my experience, but it sure sounds enticing.
