Julie's "friend" is my wife, who is 4'11.5" tall and weighs about 100
lbs. In addition to being "vertically challenged", she has a very
short torso in proportion to her height. We took some measurements,
and found that the difference between my wife's shoulder-to-waist
measurement and mine is about 3" (I am 6'1" tall, and no, my wife and
I don't go dancing together very often :-).

Since a standard backplate fits me perfectly, we decided to have a
machine shop cut 3" off the top of one for her. As luck would have
it, that 3" was exactly enough to remove all the slots, so we just
had them machine in some new slots, using the cut off portion as a
guide. We then webbed it like a regular backplate, and voila, it
fits her perfectly.

The only drawback is that the hole spacing was reduced by the same
3", so we had to move her bands to 8" centers. Also, we had to put
new grommets in a set of wings so that they would be positioned
correctly with respect to the tanks.

She has used it with a set of DiveRite Jr wings, on both double
Genesis 80s and double 95s (not at the same time, though :-). So far,
it seems to be working OK for her. She needs to practice with it more
before passing final judgement on it, though.

Anyway, that has been our experience - hope it helps.
