I tried the OMS Argon rgulator on a dive at Wakulla this weekend, looking
for
something to take the place of the Poseidens that are no longer made. The OMS
is
a similar configuration, with an overpressure relief valve, but without the
swivel ( one less failure point, and unnecessary). It delivers gas at the
correct rate (slowly, but enough to keep up with scootering down from zero to
300, but not fast enough to cause a runaway suit). It is a DIN connection,
which
I use for everything. It appears to be a wel-made unit, and I see no reason why
it would not stand up, especially at argon pressures.
I also tried an OMS steel backplate, looking for a few extra pounds to go
with the newer DUI insulation, which I also tried at the same time. (This was a
setup dive, and Sankey and I were superflous on the dive, so could screw it up
and leave without effecting the outcome). This worked quite well also in
conjuction with the "v" weight that I use with the OMS 121 tanks to make them
the same bouyancy as 104's.
The DUI insulation is ridicolous - you might was well be sitting at home as
diving - it works that well. I felt no discomfort for an entire 10 hour dive (
100 bottom time at 300 followed by 8 hour and twenty minute deco).
