  I've got a couple of e-mails regarding showing a workable
solution for a reed-based on/off switch.  I do not use the
circuit below and I have never tested it but it's the most
basic,  minimalistic and totally workable solution I know of.

It's also easy to make it very fault tolerant using redundant
parts.

A coat of Konformal SR2000 and this thing can take a
flooding at 600 feet with ease.

And whatever you do never dive rectangular battery housings.
