Subject: Re: SPG on Deco Bottles

I hope you guys aren't actually DIVING with the SPG screwed directly onto
the first stage. I have a 1st stage I use for gas analysis and it has the
SPG screwed directly into it...I assume most people at this level knew this
was possible with most SPG's and 1st stages. Too actually get in the water
with such a setup is looking for trouble - one good whack on the SPG and
you stand the possibility of losing the gauge and a good chunk of gas. If
you want to screw an SPG into the 1st stage get one of those button types
that does not rigidly stick 4 inches out from the reg. The other choices
are a)use a hose on the SPG or b)dial 1-800-PLA-GOLF. - Tony

I've been waiting for someone to suggest screwing the SPG into the first
stage for a couple of days (thanks troppo). Most decent SPGs in fact have
space for an O ring and can be screwed straight into the first stage as the
hose would have been. The problem is that Murphy will dictate that the SPG
faces the wrong direction when screwed in (the PTFE tape might be the
answer to that one - I'll try that at some stage).

Also the concept works better with some designs of first stages, on my
Poseidons the SPG is on the opposite side to the 2nd stage hose which I find
difficult to read underwater (thus I've gone back to the hose route on my
Poseidons). Turret first stages appear to suit the method better.
