I checked the backup lights we are testing - they are not Cressi's, they are called "Deep See", and we got them from Lloyd Bailey a while back. We (Bill Mee and I ) have been taking them with us in our pockets at Wakulla and using them on open water gear. So far, they do not leak, they take the depth, they turn on at depth, they have the right shape, size, battery config (three c-cells), the bulb matches the voltage, and the attachment point at the end is correct, etc. They are not nearly as nice as an Oceanic Hylite, but Oceanic is not making these any more, so this is the next best thing we have found. The glass lens looks a little cheesy, but it obviously holds, so I guess it is ok. This beats the hell out of everything else out there, and if I ever run out of Hylites, I will be using these as backup. DIve Rite is always talking about making dive gear, maybe somebody whould suggest to them that they take over the Hylite line from Oceanic, or just copy the light exctly as it is, with no changes at all. Or maybe OMS - they seem to be interested in finding gear that works for us as well. Does anybody have Griffith's email? George M.
