OK Gil, 

Good point -- then what you might want to do is apprentice --- get your
skills in order and agree to be a safety diver for a group of divers. Committ
your summer or a bunch of weekends etc. Exclusively to that group -- you will
end up doing the grunt work but you will have gear to use, learn lots of
stuff and maybe even dive the big parts of the trip. If you got the goods --
meaning right attitude to start --- I know where you could start next summer
in NY.
