Mitch, WKPP is the Woodville Karst Plain Project, a group of 80 divers and scientists who have been studying the area by the same name which is south of Tallahasse , Florida, and an important groundwater interface. Our goals are to catalogue and protect it. We have developed diving techniques for this (long range deep mixed gas scooter cave diving in cold water) which are now taught and imitated everywhere. Our divers , both past and present, have always been the best in the business, which is what is required to deal with this massive , deep resource. We put out tapes and other information on how we do it and what the results are. Most of our output is used by the Government for enviornmental purposes, and by the diving communities to improve safety and technique. The opposite of the WKPP is what is known as a "stroke", and these are people with no purpose, no standards, no organization, and no class. They generally hide cave and do not survey what they do find, and provide no usefull service or information to anyone. You will see these people critcize us privately, as they do not have the weight of the evidence in their favor to do it publicly. I am the Director of the Project, and the 800 pound Silverback Gorilla of this kind of diving, but you can call me "Trey". I do teach diving , but only one kind, to one kind of guy, for one reason, and that is of interest to only a handfull of people in this world. - G George M.
